Region 9 Swimming Team, composed of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), clinched nine (9) gold and four (4) silver medals in the 2023 National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games at the New Clark City Aquatic Center on October 2-3, 2023.
The team gave a good start to the competition as the region 9 swimmers showcased their formidable skills in a 10-lane, 50-meter main pool.
The victorious Region 9 swimmers were the following:
1. Imee Joyce M. Saavedra (ZPPSU) 5 Gold Medals in 200m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 200 IM.
———- 2. Marianne Mae C. Elopre (ZPPSU) 3 Gold Medals in 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly ———- 3. Kathrina N. Harvey (WMSU) 1 Gold in 100m Butterfly and 4 Silver Medals in 100m Breastroke, 200m Butterfly, 200m Breastroke and 200 IM
The team was headed by the dynamic coaches, Christian T. Llanes along with assistant coach Emie S. Misil.
