ZPPSU commences its 120th Foundation Day

The entire community of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University joined in the commemoration of its 120th Foundation Day as an esteemed higher education institution in the Zamboanga Peninsula archipelago, held at the main campus yesterday, March 19. The whole-day affair started with a Thanksgiving mass, and was followed by a series of contests to include Booth Competition, Laro ng Lahi, Sports Competition (Bowling, Dart, Billiards, and Basketball), and ZPPSU Got Talent among colleges and extension campus of the institution. ZPPSU President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral led the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony together with the university core officials. ZPPSU-Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ma. Christina Wee expressed her high respect for the current status of the ZPPSU. “For 120 years, ZPPSU has been the beacon of knowledge and opportunity in ZamPen. We have witnessed the evolution of this university from its humble beginnings to the respected learning institution it is today,” Dr. Wee affirmed. ZPPSU, CHED orient scholars on scholarship grants

𝐙𝐏𝐏𝐒𝐔, 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, through the Scholarship Office with representatives from the Commission on Higher Education – UniFast, conducted a whole-day orientation on scholarship programs being offered by the government to student-grantees, held at the Sen. Angara Building recently. The event focused on Republic Act 10931, dubbed the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act,” which was discussed by Ms. Watchel T. Basilio of CHED-Unifast. Among the scholarship programs given to the students were Free Higher Education among State Universities and Colleges, Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), Tulong-Dunong Program (TDP), and Student Loan Program. Further, concerned offices of the ZPPSU clarified the process of its release, and explained the considered factors on its delays. The ZPPSU and CHED have guaranteed the scholars that they will really receive the grants of the government, and affirmed that there are no scams happening during the release. The government will always prioritize students in need. The Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University family is in full support of the turnover ceremony of Dr. Roy Lim Valesco as the 6th president of Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, held at ZSCMST Gymnasium today, March 14. This milestone is an attestation of Dr. Valesco’s strong leadership, unyielding dedication, and steadfast commitment towards greater heights for the college. To note, Dr. Valesco spent his 25 years as public servant in ZPPSU, and ended up as the outwent Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Cabral undergoes evaluation for reappointment as ZPPSU President

Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral underwent evaluation for his second term as university president, held at the ZPPSU Medical and Dental Building on March 11, 2025. The steering evaluation committee interviewed the ZPPSU president regarding his accomplishments during his tenure, as well as his aspirations and goals for the institution. Navigating leadership continuity, Dr. Cabral presented his achievements and milestones from 2019 to 2024, highlighting the institution’s transition to university status, academic excellence, and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and machinery. The evaluation committee was led by AACCUP President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, along with PASUC President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, CHEDRO-IX Regional Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, Private Sector Representative Dr. Victor A. Liozo, and ZPPSU-EPDU Dean Dr. Kier Dela Calzada. The committee expressed their appreciation for Dr. Cabral’s rapid and commendable achievements during his first term and encouraged him to continue his good leadership. The neighboring university, Western Mindanao State University, represented by its President Dr. Ma Carla A. ZPPSU stakeholders evaluate Dr. Cabral for his 2nd term as President

Administrative staff, faculty members, student leaders, city officials, and alumni of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University were called upon to share visionary testimonies, as Dr. Nelson P. Cabral was rooting for his reappointment to his second term as University President, held at the Medical-Dental Conference Room, March 10. The steering evaluation committee interviewed the satisfaction of the selected stakeholders on the leadership and accomplishments of Dr. Cabral, as the chief of the ZPPSU for almost eight years now. Further, the employees and students emphasized the notable changes and innovations brought by Dr. Cabral’s administration on the campus, to include infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment, extension campuses in ZamPen, and linkages, among others. The evaluation committee is led by AACCUP President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso with PASUC President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, CHEDRO-IX Regional Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. ZPPSU EPDU kicks off first Invitaitonal Cup 2025

Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University Extension Delivering Units kicked off the eagerly awaited first Invitational Cup, held at Poblacion, Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay, from March 7 to 9, 2025. A spirited athletic celebration of skills, talents, and unity commenced with a solidarity parade, joined by the five extension campuses to include Vitali, Kabasalan, Bayog, Malangas, and Siay. The cup is dubbed, Stronger Together: Unity Through Sports Competition,” was duly opened by University President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral. Dr. Cabral emphasized the values of sportsmanship teamwork and mutual respect in this historic cup. Moreover, Dr. Cabral expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the local government of Malangas, led by Municipal Mayor Hon. Marcelo M. Baquial, and the Office of Senator Sonny Angara, Secretary of the Department of Education. Mr. Rom Trias, representing the Office of Hon. Sonny Angara as the event’s guest speaker, conveyed Secretary Angara’s sincere appreciation to the entire ZPPSU Community for making the event memorable. The event highlights the Lighting of the Torch of Friendship, symbolizing unity and mutual respect among student athletes, and a grand field demonstration presented by the Ana Bacquial’s PathFit students. ZPPSU Invitational Cup 2025 to kick off today

Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University – Extension Program Development Unit (ZPPSU-EPDU) will officially open the ZPPSU Invitational Cup 2025 at Ana M. Baquial Campus in Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay Province today, March 07. The Invitational Cup, featuring multiple sports competitions, will be faced off by delegates from the five extension campuses of the university to including the campuses of Malangas, Siay, and Kabasalan from Zamboanga Sibugay Province, the Bayog campus of Zamboanga Del Sur Province, and Vitali campus of Zamboanga City. Recently, a solidarity was already held among the coaching staff of the different sports to discuss the general ground rules to impose during the actual plays. The event will be facilitated by the ZPPSU Sports Development Office, headed by Dr. Dexter T. Paclibar together with the recognized sports coaches of the university. Further, the initiative is headed by EPDU Dean Dr. Kier Dela Calzada, who led the extension unit to be the over-all champion of the ZPPSU Sports Festival 2024. ZPPSU culminates Nat’l Arts Month

𝐙𝐏𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐭’𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, through the Office of the Culture and Arts, has culminated the monthlong observance of the National Arts Month 2025 with various events held at the ZPPSU grounds recently. The final day featured a “Kulintangan Learn to Play,” which was participated by enthusiastic student-artists from the different colleges. This morning’s event was facilitated by College of Physical Education and Sports (CPES) Faculty Member and Cultural Dance Troupe Coach, Mr. Joshua Pioquinto. In the afternoon, an on-the-spot poster-making contest was held, highlighting this year’s theme — “Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin.” The announcement of the winners followed where Mr. Renz Q. Rafaela from the College of Teacher Education emerged in 1st Place, Ms. Elle Jade C. Tilos from the Senior High School was named as the 2nd Placer, and Ms. Franchezka Luna from CPES gained the 3rd Place spot. Further, the ZPPSU Cultural Dance Troupe, Cantamos Chorale, HipHop Group, and CPES Maroon Eagles Cheerleading Squad performed to grace the culminating activity. The whole-month celebration was headed by the Office of the Culture and Arts headed by the Ms. Jessamine Andajao, thanking the coaches for bringing out the talents of the ZPPSU student-artists.
