ZPPSU co-hosts Int’l Research Conference, inks MOA with UCLA

ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY – The university has recently marked a strong debut of impression as one of the academic hosts of the three-day International Research Conference held in the city this year.

The said conference explored international studies on food security, disaster response, climate change adaptation, and women empowerment – as pressing global issues of the different societies around the globe, where two faculty researchers of the university made notable stints and seized a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to emphasize the impacts and significance of their respective studies.

“From words of good intention to an intentional doing. Thank you to ZPPSU, headed by Dr. Nelson Cabral. Until our next meaningful partnership,” Western Mindanao State University President Dr. Ma. Carla Altea Ochotorena emphasized on the event’s SDE video produced by the ZPPSU Public Information Office posted on Facebook.

The university was recognized as one of the academic hosts of the international event.

“Our role as the co-host is to be really involved in all activities and engagements of the event, as the university president [Dr. Nelson P. Cabral] is very supportive of this conference because this will be our guide on our path and direction to internationalization,” Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Rolando P. Malalay affirmed.

Further, the ZPPSU has also inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of California Los Angeles Center for Southeast Asian Studies (UCLA CSEAS) led by the Director Dr. Stephen Acabado.

“We also had a MOA signing with UCLA as our global partner, which will be used as our legal document in our direction towards internationalization,” Dr. Malalay added.

Joined with some of the identified national and international panelists from other countries, the university was sincerely grateful for its participation and contribution to the success of the event.

The conference is anchored with the theme “Sustaining Traditions, Securing Futures: Community Knowledge in Food Security, Disaster Response, Climate Change Adaptation, and Women Empowerment,” hosted by the Department of Science and Technology – Region IX (DOST-IX), Western Mindanao State University, the City Government of Zamboanga, and co-hosted by the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University along with the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, Sulu State College, Basilan State College, Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology, Taluksangay Barangay Council, Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College, and the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage – BARMM.
