ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY – Following the immense preparation of the university for the upcoming WorldSkills Western Mindanao 2026, students from the different colleges, senior high school, and extension campuses in the region convened for the Inter-University Worlds Skills Olympics as the major highlight of the ZPPSU 121st Founding Anniversary held at the main campus, this month.
The said Olympics conducted eight major vocational or technical skills contests that feature on the world stage, such as Electrical Installation, Refrigeration and Airconditioning, Fashion Technology, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Welding, Joinery, and Carpentry.

The competing students are expected to deploy their profound learning from the vocational programs to clutch the opportunity to represent the ZPPSU at the WorldSkills Western Mindanao this year.
“These competitions are important as they strive to give their best performance, and we could select the best to represent ZPPSU. As we celebrate our 121st year, we should not simply watch without bringing home a trophy for our team,” the head of the ZPPSU World Skills Olympics Committee Ms. Josephine L. Sulasula said.

The proponent of this initiative was ZPPSU’s Vice President for Administration and Finance, Ms. Josephine L. Sulasula – who expressed deep appreciation for the event as well as to further boost its technical vocational programs, as ZPPSU is recognized as a premier institution in the city focusing on technical-vocational education and industrial technology.

“The leadership of President Nelson P. Cabral and the Vice Presidents continue to inspire confidence in our faculty and our students. From the top management, these Skills Olympics is just the onset of the WorldSkills Competition,” VPAF Sulasula added.
To note, the university already had Ms. Stela Maris Quebete, a graduating student of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology major in Garments and Textile Technology (BSIT-GTT) of the university, represented the Philippines in the 14th WorldSkills ASEAN Competition in Pasay City last year.

The university committed full support to the ZPPSU representatives’ participation in the WorldSkills competitions and guaranteed full financial support.

The WorldSkills Western Mindanao 2026 is yet to be announced and will be hosted by the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University.
Further, the university was invited to witness the WorldSkills Philippines in Pampanga City, to be hosted by Region III in July 2026, and the International WorldSkills in China in September 2026.

“This is a step toward becoming part of the global WorldSkills landscape. The top management believes that Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University will excel in WorldSkills—whether at the regional, national, or ASEAN level,” VPAF Sulasula exclaimed.
