ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY — Two faculty-researchers from Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University proudly presented their respective studies and as panelists in the International Conference, focusing on leveraging community knowledge to address pressing global issues, held in this city, from January 21 to 23, this year.
Director of the University Research Operation Division Dr. Azul DL. Lacson, presented the study entitled “Prototype Boiler Trainer: Acceptability Among Faculty and Industry Experts for TVET Instruction,” which aims to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and industry practice by validating a training tool that can improve the quality of TVET instruction.

The study was co-authored by the faculty members of the university to include, Mr. Roderick T. Patricio, Mr. Nomer P. Delos Reyes, and Mr. Alladin T. Cuartocruz.
Also, Director of the Extension Management Office Prof. Cellyn Verallo, has showcased her authored study titled “Landfill Gas Modelling: A Study to Forecast Methane Gas Generation and Recovery at Salaan Landfill Using Philippine Land GEM V.1,” providing data-driven insights that can guide landfill operations, policy formulation, and investments in renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction initiatives using a Philippine-adapted modeling tool.

This study was co-authored by Dr. Rolando Malalay, Engr. Janel Tahil, Engr. Edabel Jane Falcasantos, Ms. Atika M. Bidin, and Mr. Rosmar B. Alvarez.
“Two of them are panelists or presenters during the event. We have also sent observers and President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral is really supporting this event because this will be a guide on our path and direction to internationalization,” ZPPSU — Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Rolando P. Malalay said.
Dr. Lacson and Prof. Verallo were identified as two of the national researchers or panelists, along with the other foreign researchers, who presented their relevant studies with valuable findings in response to climate change and environmental disasters.
The International Conference is anchored with the theme, “Sustaining Traditions, Securing Futures: Community Knowledge in Food Security, Disaster Response, Climate Change Adaptation, and Women Empowerment.”

The ZPPSU’s participation, including its role as co-host alongside partnered State Universities and Colleges in the country, underscores the university’s relentless efforts to the Sustainable Development Goals through knowledge generation and exchange; research excellence and collaboration; and global linkages in building secured, sustainable, inclusive, and empowered communities.
The said conference was mainly hosted by the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) led by President Dr. Maria Carla Ochotorena and sponsored by the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Southeast Asian Studies (UCLA CSEAS) in collaboration with other international agencies.
