“Gender mainstreaming is a moral and social responsibility” – VPAF Sulasula

An inclusive workshop on mainstreaming Gender and Development in research and extension, as well as the application of the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) was held among advocates of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, in a hotel today, April 03. “As GAD advocates, we must recognize that gender mainstreaming is not just an institutional requirement—it is a moral and social responsibility. It is our collective duty to ensure that research and extension services become powerful catalysts for change, breaking barriers and fostering a more equitable society,” Vice President for Administration and Finance Ms. Josephine L. Sulasula said. The community is encouraged to engage, collaborate, and apply every learning to the workplace, ensuring that gender inclusivity is deeply embedded in our university’s culture and practices. GAD expert, Asst. Prof. Arnold M. Ferolino, a member of the National Gender Resource Pool of the Philippine Commission on Women, led an intensive discussion covering fundamental to more advanced topics on mainstreaming GAD in research and extension. Mr. Ferolino also discussed the Introduction to Gender Analysis and the Harmonized Gender and Development (GAD) Guidelines. This initiative was spearheaded by University GAD Director Prof. Mary Fe M. DBM Sec. Pangandaman graces ZPPSU-ICT Building inauguration

Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, led by President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral inaugurated the Information Communication Technology Building, held at the ZPPSU grounds today, April 02. Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, as the esteemed guest of the event, congratulated the entire ZPPSU community for reaching another milestone in infrastructure. “This project is a true testament to the university’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and research,” Sec. Pangandaman said. The secretary has also recognized the university as student-centric, putting the students on top as the highest priority. “We shall continue to ensure that our students have every tool they need to go as far as their talents, skills, and hard-work will take them. This will consequently translate into a more prosperous and sustainable economy for all of us,” she affirmed. Furthermore, Dr. Cabral has also recognized the DBM and Sec. Pangandaman, for the unending support toward the success of the institution. “ZPPSU is beyond grateful to the DBM because without them, maraming proyekto ng ZPPSU ay hindi makakamit. Since we cater to students, we must prioritize them and strive to give them the best, as the institution would not exist without the students,” Dr. Cabral emphasized. ZPPSU-GAD conclues Nat’l Women’s Month 2025

The Zamboang Peninsula Polytechnic State University – Office of the Gender and Development (ZPPSU-GAD) officially culminated its celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month held at ITE Quadrangle today, March 31. This month-long celebration reaffirms the essentiality of gender equality in the workplace as advocates and agents of change. The institution is fully committed to collaborating in creating a society where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive. The culmination highlighted the awarding of winners of the College Purple Decorating Contest. The College of Information and Computing Science (CICS) claimed the top spot [1st Prize]; Senior High School (SHS) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) secured the second and third places, respectively. Additionally, the awarding of winners of the Digital Poster Making Competition has also took place where the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) clinched 1st place, followed by the College of Physical Education and Sports (CPES) securing second place and Senior High School (SHS) for third place. BLOWBAGETS Training for ZPPSU Juanas

An enhanced training on wheels is once again conducted for empowered women of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University in celebration of National Women’s Month every March of the year. The BLOWBAGETS (Battery, Light, Oil, Water, Brakes, Air, Gas, Engine, Tires, Self) initiative aims to remind every Juana on wheels to check their vehicle’s condition before driving, as well as to avoid issues on the road. CHED turns over COPC to ZPPSU-Bayog Campus

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office IX, led by Regional Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo formally turned over the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) to Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University – Extension Delivering Unity Bayog Campus, held at the Bayog Municipal Office on March 27. CHED-IX Chief Education Program Specialist Dr. Joseph Lou Sta Teresa affirmed that “ZPPSU has met all the minimum requirements set forth by the Commission on Higher Education.” Dr. Sta Teresa also emphasized that with the recommendation of the Regional Quality Assessment Team, CHED-IX is pleased to award the Certificate of Program Compliance to ZPPSU-EPDU Bayog Campus. The issued COPC covers the following programs: • Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in Culinary Technology • Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in Computer Technology • Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education major in Food and Security • Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education major in Information and Communication Technology Moreover, ZPPSU President Dr. Nelson Cabral also reiterated his dedication to bringing quality education to the doorstep of every student in the municipality of Bayog. Further, Bayog Municipal Mayor Hon. Celso A. CHED, MARINA lead joint monitoring of marine engineering course

A three-day Joint Onsite Follow-Up Monitoring of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering Program was held at the ZPPSU Campus from March 24 to 26, this year. To note, the BS-MarE is one of the flagship programs of the university, being recognized on the Zamboanga Peninsula. The monitoring was led by officials from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA). The team assessed the following key areas including, Program and Course Design, Required Resources, Standards, Teaching Methods, & Media of Delivery, Examination and Assessment System, Onboard Training, Student Admission & Retention, Quality Standards System, Research & Extension, and Facilities & Equipment for Education and Training. Further, ZPPSU-VPAF Ms. Josephine Sulasula affirmed “to ensure the BS-MarE program remains compliant, competitive, and globally recognized.” College of Maritime Education Dean Eng. Jeoffrey Mojana has also emphasized the integrity of the course to conserve, and be compliant with the mentioned key areas. The Lead Evaluator is Engr. Ronnie D. Gernato, with Engr. Yevhgeny L. 𝐙𝐏𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 Dr. Nelson P. Cabral has been reappointed as University President of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) for a second term, held at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Central Office on March 25. Dr. Cabral’s reappointment is an affirmation of his visionary leadership, tireless dedication, and boundless commitment to elevating the institution to greater heights. Moreover, he expressed that he has many plans in place to ensure the continuity of his projects and targets for the university. Additionally, he also manifested his sincere gratitude to the Board of Regents for their trust and confidence, as well as to the entire ZPPSU community for recognizing and appreciating his efforts for the university. Further, CHED Commissioner and Chair-designate Dr.Commissioner Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela extended her heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Cabral, highlighting his notable accomplishments during his first term as University President. Commission on Higher Education – Commissioner Chair Designate Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela led the conduct of the 1st Quarter Board Meeting of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University via a hybrid platform, held at the Medical-Dental Conference Room today, March 21. Dr. Valenzuela has presented the significant updates, innovations, and activities of the CHED office to the committee. More so, the university committees on financial, fiscal, academic, and administrative brought the important matters to the board for approval, which was later favored by the presiding officer. 120 years of shaping dreams, transforming lives, and forging a legacy of educational excellence The Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University celebrated its 120th Founding Anniversary and 4th anniversary as a university with its theme dubbed, PISTA sa ZPPSU: Weaving 120 Years of Excellence, Culture, and Tomorrow, held at Royce Convention Center, Astoria, on March 20, 2025. “We gather to celebrate a milestone in the history of ZPPSU—our 120th year of excellence, culture, and progress. Over the past century and a score, we have grown from a humble institution into a beacon of knowledge, innovation, and service to the community,” profoundly conveyed by University President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral. Dr. Cabral has also emphasized that the institution’s commitment to academic excellence has produced generations of skilled professionals who continue to contribute to nation-building and global competitiveness. Moreover, Dr. Cabral presented the blueprint of the institution for the fiscal year 2025, along with the presentation of Strategy 2030 from the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance and the performance highlights from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension. CHED Regional Director for Region IX, Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, CESO, reiterated his full commitment to supporting the institution in achieving its vision. Further, Atty.
