ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY – Faculty member and student-officers of the National Service Training Program of the university celebrated its 121st Founding Anniversary and 5th University-hood Anniversary with the joyful local children of the Fishermen’s Village in Barangay Manicahan, Zamboanga City, this week.

The university was duly accommodated by the locals – the parents and the barangay officials, who gave away various presents as little help for the thriving children of the village, and for the permit allowing the beneficiaries to be part of the university milestone.

“We hope that these [small giveaways] will help them in their school. The university has chosen this community because they [children] are really touching the heart of the ZPPSU,” University Guidance Counselor Ms. Janet Pangilinan said during her opening remarks.

Further, in lieu of the aforementioned annual observance, the delegation has also planted a total of 121 matured mangrove propagules in the coastal areas of the community to protect the shorelines as well as to mitigate climate change risks.

The delegation is headed by NSTP Director Dr. Omar Ramdi with Assistant Director Ms. Dinky Jean Bazan, faculty staff, and volunteer students.

The university is looking forward to more grassroots, enriching engagements that foster a sense of belongingness among vulnerable communities.
