ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY (PIO) — The College of Maritime Education of the university is set to reassert its compliance with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015, led by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), during the Periodic Audit I at the accreditation room from July 23 to 24, this year.
DNV, a Norwegian company that provides certification and risk management services including those related to ISO standards, in the presence of the Team Leader Mr. Alexander Javier will assess the sustainability of the college’s adherence after the ISO recertification was held last year.

Mr. Javier has emphasized the standards’ compliancy in the maritime program, as well as the goal of the college to stakeholders.
“If you are adhering to the core values and ISO, that’s part of maintaining the concept of continual improvement,” Mr. Javier stressed.
“Our objective is to really do service to our stakeholders – our students, so that they will learn towards excellence and be assets to our country, especially for maritime, where Filipinos are very much in demand,” he added.

Further, ZPPSU President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral expressed appreciation of the opportunity to evaluate current processes and to identify areas of innovations that will benefit maritime students and industry as a whole.
“As a state university producing maritime professionals, we recognize the importance of maintaining and enhancing our systems to meet and exceed expectations,” President Cabral conveyed in his message [read by VPAF Sulasula].

Furthermore, Mr. Javier is hopeful that maritime education is guided by the ISO 9001:2015 [a very generic international standard], and will soon be transitioned to a more certain standard of education.
“I’m hopeful that the university will soon be transitioned into ISO 21001:2018 (Education Organization Management System), which is a more specific standard in education,” Mr. Javier said.
Moreover, the Commission on Higher Education is now looking forward to the implementation of ISO 21001:2018, making this a requirement for all State Universities and Colleges. (JRA/ABC/Photos: JBM/Public Information Office)
