ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY (PIO) — In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability and community partnership, the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) through the Office of the University Climate Change Committee, spearheaded Project MANGROVE (Mangrove Action for Nurturing Green Resilience through Oceanic Vegetation and Ecosytem) at Barangay Kasanyangan, on October 17.

As part of the weeklong birthday celebration of the University President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral, this project underscores the university’s proactive role in advancing environmental education and civic responsibility.
Due to recent disasters including earthquakes and tsunami threats, the mangrove planting activity proved especially timely, as it reinforces the vital role of mangroves play in mitigating coastal erosion, shielding communities storm surges, and saving lives and livelihoods.

ZPPSU extends its gratitude to its partners from the Environmental Actions for Resilience and Transformative Humanitarian (EARTH) Project Team and the local officials of Barangay Kasanyangan for their invaluable support and active participation in this meaningful cause.

Through these collective efforts, ZPPSU continues to empower communities to adapt and thrive amidst environmental challenges. Indeed, each mangrove planted stands as a living symbol of hope, protection, and resilience — ensuring a safer, greener, and more sustainable future for all. (Written and Photos By: Rio L.
