ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY — Another milestone and history for the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University as it officially broke ground on its very first student dormitory, led by the Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, on March 27.
As the first of its kind among States, Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and even private campuses nationwide, this six-storey dormitory — equipped with modern facilities and well-designed spaces — can offer a comfortable home for up to 600 of its total student population.

“This event cannot pass. This is the first time that we are attending the groundbreaking ceremony on a 160 million dormitory, hopefully house about 600 students of ZPPSU,” Commissioner Dr. Agrupis shared.

Celebrating 121 years of transformative polytechnic education, this project truly symbolizes ZPPSU’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence; and student welfare and holistic development.
“This is more than just a groundbreaking, but a commitment to enhance and strengthen the quality of education at this university,” the Commissioner added.

Hon. Celso Lobregat, former City Congressman and Mayor, now Executive Assistant to the incumbent City Mayor Olso, graced the event and shared, “I do not think it was fair that an institution that was established 121 years ago could be wiped out from the face of the earth.”

Further, with the dormitory facility, he advised all students to maximize universal access to quality education to surpass tertiary level.

“To the students here today, you are beneficiaries of the universal access to free quality education. I would like to emphasize, it is not universal access to education, it is universal access to quality education,” Hon. Lobregat said.

The entire university community headed by Dr. Nelson P. Cabral, extends its profound gratitude to CHED, under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., for its steadfast support of building dreams, future, and lasting legacies for its students — the heart of the university’s mission, and the hope of this nation. (Written By: Rio L.
