CHED, MARINA lead joint monitoring of marine engineering course

A three-day Joint Onsite Follow-Up Monitoring of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering Program was held at the ZPPSU Campus from March 24 to 26, this year. To note, the BS-MarE is one of the flagship programs of the university, being recognized on the Zamboanga Peninsula. The monitoring was led by officials from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA). The team assessed the following key areas including, Program and Course Design, Required Resources, Standards, Teaching Methods, & Media of Delivery, Examination and Assessment System, Onboard Training, Student Admission & Retention, Quality Standards System, Research & Extension, and Facilities & Equipment for Education and Training. Further, ZPPSU-VPAF Ms. Josephine Sulasula affirmed “to ensure the BS-MarE program remains compliant, competitive, and globally recognized.” College of Maritime Education Dean Eng. Jeoffrey Mojana has also emphasized the integrity of the course to conserve, and be compliant with the mentioned key areas. The Lead Evaluator is Engr. Ronnie D. Gernato, with Engr. Yevhgeny L. ZPPSU President Dr. Cabral reappointed

𝐙𝐏𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 Dr. Nelson P. Cabral has been reappointed as University President of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) for a second term, held at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Central Office on March 25. Dr. Cabral’s reappointment is an affirmation of his visionary leadership, tireless dedication, and boundless commitment to elevating the institution to greater heights. Moreover, he expressed that he has many plans in place to ensure the continuity of his projects and targets for the university. Additionally, he also manifested his sincere gratitude to the Board of Regents for their trust and confidence, as well as to the entire ZPPSU community for recognizing and appreciating his efforts for the university. Further, CHED Commissioner and Chair-designate Dr.Commissioner Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela extended her heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Cabral, highlighting his notable accomplishments during his first term as University President. The Evaluation Committee recommended Dr. Cabral’s reappointment was unanimously approved by the Board of Regents. CHED Comm. Valenzuela presied ZPPSU 1st Quarter Board Meeting

Commission on Higher Education – Commissioner Chair Designate Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela led the conduct of the 1st Quarter Board Meeting of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University via a hybrid platform, held at the Medical-Dental Conference Room today, March 21. Dr. Valenzuela has presented the significant updates, innovations, and activities of the CHED office to the committee. More so, the university committees on financial, fiscal, academic, and administrative brought the important matters to the board for approval, which was later favored by the presiding officer. Further, ZPPSU President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral has also presented the significant infrastructure projects, higher education program, and research and extension program of the university. In attendance during the meeting were CHED-IX Regional Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. ZPPSU honots its 120th Founding Anniversary and 4th Anniversary as University

120 years of shaping dreams, transforming lives, and forging a legacy of educational excellence The Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University celebrated its 120th Founding Anniversary and 4th anniversary as a university with its theme dubbed, PISTA sa ZPPSU: Weaving 120 Years of Excellence, Culture, and Tomorrow, held at Royce Convention Center, Astoria, on March 20, 2025. “We gather to celebrate a milestone in the history of ZPPSU—our 120th year of excellence, culture, and progress. Over the past century and a score, we have grown from a humble institution into a beacon of knowledge, innovation, and service to the community,” profoundly conveyed by University President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral. Dr. Cabral has also emphasized that the institution’s commitment to academic excellence has produced generations of skilled professionals who continue to contribute to nation-building and global competitiveness. Moreover, Dr. Cabral presented the blueprint of the institution for the fiscal year 2025, along with the presentation of Strategy 2030 from the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance and the performance highlights from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension. CHED Regional Director for Region IX, Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, CESO, reiterated his full commitment to supporting the institution in achieving its vision. Further, Atty. Domingo affirmed that CHED is proud and looking forward to be part of the university’s journey into the next 100 years. Subsequently, another guest speaker, Ms. Aileen Mae Chiong, delivered an intensive and comprehensive discussion on Gender-Fair Language in the workplace. ZPPSU commences its 120th Foundation Day

The entire community of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University joined in the commemoration of its 120th Foundation Day as an esteemed higher education institution in the Zamboanga Peninsula archipelago, held at the main campus yesterday, March 19. The whole-day affair started with a Thanksgiving mass, and was followed by a series of contests to include Booth Competition, Laro ng Lahi, Sports Competition (Bowling, Dart, Billiards, and Basketball), and ZPPSU Got Talent among colleges and extension campus of the institution. ZPPSU President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral led the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony together with the university core officials. ZPPSU-Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ma. Christina Wee expressed her high respect for the current status of the ZPPSU. “For 120 years, ZPPSU has been the beacon of knowledge and opportunity in ZamPen. We have witnessed the evolution of this university from its humble beginnings to the respected learning institution it is today,” Dr. Wee affirmed. ZPPSU, CHED orient scholars on scholarship grants

𝐙𝐏𝐏𝐒𝐔, 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, through the Scholarship Office with representatives from the Commission on Higher Education – UniFast, conducted a whole-day orientation on scholarship programs being offered by the government to student-grantees, held at the Sen. Angara Building recently. The event focused on Republic Act 10931, dubbed the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act,” which was discussed by Ms. Watchel T. Basilio of CHED-Unifast. Among the scholarship programs given to the students were Free Higher Education among State Universities and Colleges, Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), Tulong-Dunong Program (TDP), and Student Loan Program. Further, concerned offices of the ZPPSU clarified the process of its release, and explained the considered factors on its delays. The ZPPSU and CHED have guaranteed the scholars that they will really receive the grants of the government, and affirmed that there are no scams happening during the release. The government will always prioritize students in need. The Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University family is in full support of the turnover ceremony of Dr. Roy Lim Valesco as the 6th president of Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, held at ZSCMST Gymnasium today, March 14. This milestone is an attestation of Dr. Valesco’s strong leadership, unyielding dedication, and steadfast commitment towards greater heights for the college. To note, Dr. Valesco spent his 25 years as public servant in ZPPSU, and ended up as the outwent Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Cabral undergoes evaluation for reappointment as ZPPSU President

Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral underwent evaluation for his second term as university president, held at the ZPPSU Medical and Dental Building on March 11, 2025. The steering evaluation committee interviewed the ZPPSU president regarding his accomplishments during his tenure, as well as his aspirations and goals for the institution. Navigating leadership continuity, Dr. Cabral presented his achievements and milestones from 2019 to 2024, highlighting the institution’s transition to university status, academic excellence, and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and machinery. The evaluation committee was led by AACCUP President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, along with PASUC President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, CHEDRO-IX Regional Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, Private Sector Representative Dr. Victor A. Liozo, and ZPPSU-EPDU Dean Dr. Kier Dela Calzada. The committee expressed their appreciation for Dr. Cabral’s rapid and commendable achievements during his first term and encouraged him to continue his good leadership. ZPPSU stakeholders evaluate Dr. Cabral for his 2nd term as President

Administrative staff, faculty members, student leaders, city officials, and alumni of Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University were called upon to share visionary testimonies, as Dr. Nelson P. Cabral was rooting for his reappointment to his second term as University President, held at the Medical-Dental Conference Room, March 10. The steering evaluation committee interviewed the satisfaction of the selected stakeholders on the leadership and accomplishments of Dr. Cabral, as the chief of the ZPPSU for almost eight years now. Further, the employees and students emphasized the notable changes and innovations brought by Dr. Cabral’s administration on the campus, to include infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment, extension campuses in ZamPen, and linkages, among others.
