INTERNATIONAL ENGAGEMENT | Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) President Dr. Nelson P. This effort is a platform to provide opportunities to foster educational collaboration, cultural and intellectual exchange, with their international counterparts. PHREB grants Level 1 Accreditation to ZPPSU-REC

The Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) has accredited Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University’s Research Ethics Committee (ZPPSU-REC) as Level 1 Research Ethics Committee from July 3, 2024, to July 2, 2025. The ZPPSU-REC is headed by the esteemed ZPPSU-REC Chair, Atty. Marti W. Gregorio, LLM. Pursuant to Section 12 of the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Act of 2013, the constitution of the PHREB states that, “The PHREB, shall ensure adherence to the universal principles for the protection of human participants in research.” In order to fulfill its functions, PHREB has set requirements to guide in the conduct of quality ethical review of research by means of an accreditation as a requirement for all Research Ethics Committee (REC). Moreover, a Research Ethics Committee (REC) is an independent body responsible for making decisions regarding the review, approval, and implementation of research protocols/proposals, in order to ensure the protection of the rights, safety, and well-being of human participants and promotes integrity of research data. The PHREB has granted ZPPSU-REC in compliance with the CHED Memorandum issued on March 30, 2015, by Chairperson Patricia Licuanan, where all SUCs Research Ethics Review Committees must register and be accredited with the PHREB. #OneZPPSU

ZPPSU attends life support training course

To properly manage critical medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrest and obstructed airways, the medical team of the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University attended the two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Training Course held at the ZPPSU Medical-Dental Building on June 29 & 30. The Basic Life Support Training is notably essential because it provides people with the knowledge and skills they need to respond effectively in times of emergency situations, with a focus on saving lives, promoting recovery, and ensuring patient safety. Learning sessions to include were Mouth-to-Mouth Breaths, Rescue Breathing, Breaths with an Advanced Airway, and Adult, Child, & Infant Choking among others. ZPPSU Physician led by Dr. Franz Chezka Kathrize A. Ochotorena with her life-saving staff, expressed utmost gratitude to the Health Force Zamboanga Training Center staff as the esteemed facilitators. ZPPSU participates in the National ROTC Games 2024

The Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University – Philippines Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ZPPSU-ROTC) actively participated in the recently concluded ROTC Games Mindanao Qualifying Leg 2024, held last June 23-29, 2024. The 2024 ROTC Games, dubbed “Philippine Husay ng ROTC, Husay ng Kabataan,” were participated in by various State Universities and Colleges in Mindanao. Moreover, the ZPPSU contingent delivered a remarkable performance, as they bagged home 30 medals in both athletic and non-athletic events, earning 13 gold, 2 silver,and 15 bronze medals. This Mindanao-wide qualifying leg aimed to develop discipline, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and leadership, among the cadets from the various universities and colleges. #OneZPPSU

ZPPSU President Dr. Cabral speaks at Int’l Conference in USA

Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU), visionary President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral, graced the 4th International Research and Education Conference (IREC) as an inspirational speaker, held in New York City, USA, scheduled from June 20 to July 6, 2024. The international conference was organized by the Association of Filipino Teachers and Educators in America, Inc. (AFTEA), themed “Trailblazing the Futures of Education Initiative: A Commitment to Renewed Perspectives through Global Collaboration.” The conference provided a platform to examine research and conduct dialogues; reflect and benchmark on how educators can envision and create possible futures in which education shapes a better world for all stakeholders; and pursue and articulate individual and institutional commitments to advocate for the right to education throughout life, linking the right to education to the right to information, to science, to participation, and to connectivity. Additionally, this endeavor enriches academic experiences and promotes international collaboration in research and education. #OneZPPSU

THE ‘ACTION’ IN ACTION RESEARCH | A three-day intensive research conference was conducted by Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) – Graduate School Office, which was held at the Skyview, Grand Astoria Hotel last June 26-28, 2024.

During the first day, Dr. Ericson O. Alieto involved a discussion on article search, citation, and methodology, followed by Dr. Anthony O. Pil, who facilitated an interactive workshop on how to apply the PDSA model, a hands-on way for conducting action research. Quasi-experimental design, data analysis, and action research writing were elaborately discussed in the workshop done by Dr. Pil on the second day of the conference. Subsequently, Dr. Alieto gave a lecture on the development of credible research tools, the adoption and adaptation of instruments, and the art of writing compelling results and discussions. ZPPSU as a gender-responsive society, inclusive workplace

To ensure that the government pursues gender equality and a safe working place for all identified genders, Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University – Gender and Development (ZPPSU-GAD) is conducting the five-day Gender Sensitivity Training among employees from June 24 to 28, 2024. The participants were jobholders from the administration, faculty staff from different colleges, visiting lecturers, offices’ job orders, and utility personnel. On the first day, the speaker and a long-time GAD advocate Dr. Ana Maria Gomez, led the talk on deeper understanding of the roles of men and women as well as to increase the level of awareness on GAD and to address gender-related issues in societies. Further, Dr. Gomez tackled the different ‘confidence persona’ of every person. “Don’t be afraid to do works of men and women. Everyone is equal and included, and everybody has the right of expression and to speak up,” she affirmed. The week-long GAD training is dubbed, “Advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusive Comprehensive Gender Sensitivity Training for ZPPSU Employees.” The week with the ZPPSU-GAD coordinators is expected to impart GAD learning and literacies to the active participants assigned per batch, given the challenges with reflections that could apply to the actual job environment. “For us to have the change of perception in gender quality, let’s appreciate than insult them,” Dr. Gomez exclaimed. #OneZPPSU
