ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY (PIO) — University officials participated in a two-day mentoring-writeshop on Internationalization in Higher Education organized by the University of the Philippines Diliman held in Manila City, last Sept 17-19, this year. “Let us continue building bridges across borders, empowering our institutions, and preparing our learners to thrive in a globally connected world. Together, we shape not just graduates, but global citizens,” Commission on Higher Education — Commissioner Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela stressed, as one of the keynote speakers. Among the key areas addressed in the writeshop were ASEAN education developments, the future of international higher education, global innovation pathways, CHED policies and frameworks, and models of internationalization. Moreover, Dr. Valenzuela’s topics also covered the trend of AI, blockchain, and new technologies; the significance of global visibility; transnational education; and the comparability of curricula to partner universities abroad. Internationalization experts from UP Diliman contributed knowledge in various aspects. Asst. Prof. Emmanuelle C. Manalang, presented key topics on the core of the strategic plan, ensuring that ZPPSU’s strategic objective was linked with the priority area of internationalization. The sessions also included, effective approaches to establishing international linkages, centered on student and faculty mobility and cross-cultural exchange, presented by UP Prof. Carlene P.C. Pilar-Arceo. Additionally, Prof. Jon Paul F. Maligalig emphasized the importance of promoting quality standards for international recognition. These inputs served as real examples and ideas to facilitate the ZPPSU faculty and staff in further developing the international relationships. Through the UP Diliman technical know-how, the capacity-building workshop effectively enhanced ZPPSU’s institutional readiness for internationalization; the university has made strides for the development of a high-level university on a global platform.
